The Marist College rowing program will host the Presiden't Cup Regatta on Saturday. The event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. The Red Foxes defeated Army last season and will be defending the Herbert J. Haight Trophy from the Black Knights. La Salle will be particpating in the event but will not be competing for the President's Cup.

The President's Cup Regatta, originally named in honor of former Marist College President Linus Foy, was first held in 1963 and was considered a prepatory event for the Dad Vail Regatta. Marist College and The Friends of Marist Rowing are pleased to again welcome all the visiting competitors, their families, all returning Marist alumni and spectators from the community to share in the competition and the battle for the Herbet J. Haight Trophy.

The Herbert J. Haight Trophy
Named in honor of the president of the Mid-Hudson Schoolboy Rowing Association, the Herbert J. Haight Trophy is awarded to the President's Cup overall team champion. The mounted silver cup is a fitting monument to Mr. Haight, a man who devoted a majority of his time to scholastic and collegiate rowing in the Mid-Hudson Area.

Following Mr. Haight's death in 1969, a group of his friends decided to honor him by naming the points trophy presented at the President's Cup Regatta in his memory.

The name of the overall team champion is inscribed on the trophy and the trophy reamins at Marist College.
