WEST WINDSOR , N.J. - The Marist College men's and women's rowing teams won the 2008 MAAC Rowing Championships at Mercer Lake on Sunday . It is the eighth consecutive title for the men and 11th in the program's rich history. For the women, it's their third straight and eighth overall.
In the women's competition, Marist took top honors with 165 points. Fairfield University finished second with 135 points, followed by Iona College (118), Sacred Heart University (111), Loyola College (101) and Manhattan College (20).
On the men's side, Marist won the league title with a total of 186 points. Fairfield was the runner-up with 157 points. Loyola finished in third place (138), followed by Iona (125) and Manhattan (48).
The Marist men won seven of the eight events in which they were entered, with Fairfield earning a victory in the Varsity LW 4+. T he Red Foxes took first place in all seven women's events.
"It was a great day for everyone in the program. Everyone on both teams went out and did what they had to do to win," Marist Director of Rowing Tom Sanford said. "Any time you go out and win 14 of 15 total events, you know you are doing well."
