Webster, Emerel, And Segni Win Events At Coach O Invitational

KINGS POINT, NY - Freshman Nick Webster (Latham, NY) ran a personal-best time and won the 5,000-meter run - one of three Red Fox distance runners to place first - to lead the Marist College men's track team at the Coach O Invitational at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday. Webster , who was sidelined with mononucleosis for the entire indoor track season, took first place in the 5,000 with a time of 15:45.16. The time was two seconds faster than his previous best in high school, and it was his first collegiate victory. Junior Alex Emerel (Holmdel , NJ ) won the 10,000-meter run in a meet-record time of 33:51.73. Fellow junior Girma Segni (Bronx , NY ) won the mile in 4:22.25. He was followed closely by sophomore Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre , NY ), who was second in 4:24.20. Junior captain Michael Cocca (Suffield , CT ) enjoyed another stellar day in the sprints. He was 12 th in the 100-meter dash (11.32 seconds) and 30 th in the 200 dash (23.34 seconds). Cocca missed the majority of the indoor track season with a leg injury. The track team will return to action on Friday with a small squad of distance runners at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University , with the rest of the team back in action on Saturday at the Metropolitan Championships in Fort Lee , NJ.
